Test Drive an Ubuntu ISO in a Virtual Machine

 

TestDrive is a project that makes it very easy to download and run the latest daily Ubuntu development snapshot in a virtual machine. Actually, it can be configured to download and run any URL-access ISO in a virtual machine. But the primary goal is to provide a very simple method for allowing non-technical Ubuntu users to test and provide feedback on the current Ubuntu release under development.

 

Install Calibre E-Book Manager Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala"

calibre is an e-book library manager. It can view, convert and catalog e-books in most of the major e-book formats. It can also talk to a few e-book reader devices. It can go out to the internet and fetch metadata for your books. It can download newspapers and convert them into e-books for convenient reading. It is cross platform, running on Linux, Windows and OS X.

Openoffice 3.2 RC5 is released

Here is a guide to install OpenOffice 3.2 RC5 on Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala".

For the installation via ppa launchpad for Ubuntu, the official repositories that will have 3.2.0 and 3.2.1 for Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" and Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" will be available when the final version of Openoffice 3.2 is out.
